It has been a busy couple of weeks for our young reporter Carter Guiney. A fortnight ago he was in England taking part in the BDO Youth World Masters and Youth World Championships and upon his return to Belfast he was straight off to interview Robert Thornton for Darts Mad.
Since that first video interview Carter has done a number of other interviews here, and was recognized for his work with a significant interview of his own. Carter found himself on the other side of the table when he was interviewed by the very popular High Roller Radio
As if all this wasn’t enough for a 15 year old budding journalist, Carter got himself published in the media in Belfast courtesy of Belfast Live.
Making his debut in the National press in his native Northern Ireland, Carter looks at the Grand Slam of Darts, and in particular two local lads being drawn in the same group. The article can be seen in its entirety here on the Belfast Live website, and is shown below:
PDC Grand Slam of Darts draw: Daryl Gurney and Brendan Dolan set for group battle
Carter Guiney, Belfast Live 05/11/2019:
Northern Ireland pair Daryl Gurney and Brendan Dolan have both been drawn in the same group in the PDC Grand Slam Of Darts which gets underway this weekend.
The tournament sees 24 PDC stars joined by eight BDO players to compete at Wolverhampton’s Aldersley Leisure Village.
It will be the first time that Gurney and Dolan have met on TV, and both players are in good form.
Derry star Gurney reached the semi-finals of the European Championships last weekend in Germany. He also reached the semis of both the PDC World Matchplay Premier League.
Dolan, from Fermanagh, has scaled the heights this year. Since reaching the quarter-finals of the PDC World Championships last December, he has gone on to win two PDC Pro Tour titles, including one last month in Barnsley.
The pair have been drawn in the same group as Gabriel Clemens and Richard Veenstra.
Meanwhile, World number one and tournament favourite Michael van Gerwen has been given a tough group with Adrian Lewis, Ross Smith and Jim Williams.
Van Gerwen lost to Smith last week in the first round of the European Championships.
Defending champion Gerwyn Price will be looking to hold onto his title, the Welshman drawn with Dimitri Van den Bergh, Robert Thornton and ladies’ qualifier Mikuru Suzuki.
Gary Anderson, who is struggling with injury and form, has drawn Darren Webster, William O’Connor and Dave Parletti.
