Welshman Gerwyn Price lifted the inaugural Belgian darts championship defeating Michael Smith 8-3 in the final. Price celebrated victory on David’s day, Saint David being the patron saint of Wales this will have added a little extra to the proud Welshman’s win.
Having thrashed Plaisier in his opening tie of the tournament on Saturday Price made short work of fellow Welshman Jamie Hughes with a whitewash in which he only allowed Hughes a couple of darts at a double. A resounding victory over Suljovic in the quarter final set up a semi final against the tournament’s surprise package Dirk van Duivenbode.
Dirk has been a revelation since regaining his tour card at Q-School this year with a couple of very good runs on the floor. Famed for his loud walk on (see below) Dirk carried this form onto the Eurotour stage with some sublime darts.
Racing to a 3-0 lead it briefly looked like he was set to make a maiden final appearance but Price showed excellent finishing when it mattered and ran out a 7-4 winner.

In the other half of the draw Michael Smith was showing his new found love of the game. Having ended his long term management deal at the end of the previous season Michael has shown signs of his former self so far this year with a final at the masters and a nine darter in the premier league. A third round win over van Gerwen provided only the 8th career win against MvG.
A thrashing of King in the quarters was followed by a hard fought 7-5 win over world champion Peter Wright in the semis. Unfortunately for Michael Gezzy wasn’t to be stopped running out a comfortable 8-3 winner.
