THE CONQUEST HOME LEAGUE SCORER
I think it’s fair to say the most people hate chalking, even the pro’s get criticised for not taking their turn at low profile events. Its accepted that in your local pub league it is usually an integral part of the game, but at home you haven’t always got the additional person available to act as a dedicated marker. Therefore why not concentrate on perfecting your throw and get an automatic scorer?
Conquest Entertainment have been manufacturing their electronic scorers for over thirty years, and are pretty much industry standard in terms of the higher end all singing all dancing electronic scorers, used in competitions and exhibitions up and down the country and the world over.
More recently though, they have produced a scaled down version known as the Home League Scorer. Firmly aimed at the home/casual player this neat little unit will count you and your opponent down from 501, 301 etc (up to 901 is available) ensuring no miscalculations and no chalk dust to contend with (anyone else hate chalky fingers when throwing?)
Ashley Vigor (Commercial Director of the Suffolk based family business), recently sent a Home League Scorer to DartsMad for review.
The first point to note with the home league scorer is the packaging, a well thought out two layers of protection consisting of a standard outer carton and folded inner carton. This results in very little chance of damage in transit and no excessive packaging which is something we always like to see.
Upon opening the package, you are rewarded with a UK built, solid metal unit which comes in at a space friendly 200mm x 130mm x 25mm. It looks and feels substantial with features such as a metal jack plug and quality switches to ensure longevity. The unit can be wall mounted (with two screws supplied) and is powered by a separate ac adaptor.
The enclosed user manual is clear, with mounting instructions and safety guidance included.
Using the unit could not be easier the value of the required game is entered for each player, (home & away) using the numerical keypad i.e. 501, and scorers are entered followed by either H or A button corresponding to home and away player respectively.
The bright and clear red displays indicate the running scores and the previous 16 scores can also be recalled. Bust scores are not accepted and mistakes can be corrected using the C key. At the end of a leg the scorer is reset, and a new game is started. The scorer also records the leg tally. Resetting by holding down H, C and A at the same time displays the legs won before you enter the next game, resetting with the one off switch assumes a brand new game.
We at DartsMad really like the Home League Scorer, it’s built by UK engineers with a proven pedigree. Its robust exterior will protect it from the odd stray dart (unlike some of the plastic mass produced far eastern units), and is aesthetically pleasing. More importantly it gets the job done and doesn’t expose our poor arithmetic skills!
Much as we want to keep it, we are giving our review unit away to one luck winner and it’s worth over £100!!!
