Today I am joined by PDC star Chris Dobey. Chris will be making his PDC World Matchplay at the Winter Gardens this Saturday night in Blackpool, and I managed to gather his thoughts on the World Matchplay, and other stuff.
Q1. You will be making your PDC World Matchplay debut this weekend, how much are you looking forward to it?
Yes I can’t wait to get started just gonna go in like I do with any other competition and hopefully get the result I need.
Q2. You will face a tough opponent in Rob Cross in the first round, what do you make of your chances as both of you are playing well at the minute?
Robs a quality player he’s done so much in a short period of time so you have to respect him for that, the good thing about playing rob is I know what I’m going to have to do. I must play well to beat him that’s for sure.
Q3. You have been playing really well this year, you’ve reached a final of a PDC European Tour Event, do you aim to keep it going for the upcoming TV events?
Yeah of course I feel as though I’m playing some great stuff just not getting the results i hoped for but I can feel it all coming together very soon and what better way to do it with a good start at Matchplay.
Q4. Where you disappointed that you weren’t including in any of this years PDC World Series Events? As some people including myself thought you might of been picked.
No I wasn’t disappointed at all to me I feel as though I need to be more consistent in other events then I would fancy myself getting a chance but hopefully I can start to pick up from now.
Q5. You have qualified for most of the TV tournaments coming up, with the likes of the World Matchplay and the World Grand Prix and a few others, do you think you are capable of going deep in some of them?
Yeah of course I always feel as though I can go far in every tournament I play I practice well leading up to them and on the day then sometimes go on stage and it doesn’t happen but I really do believe I have the game to get to the top and I’m hoping for big things in the game.
Q6. You are up to 30th in the world, are you aiming to reach the top 16 in the world in the next year or so?
That’s exactly my aim to do that but my aim this year was to win a title I feel that’s all that is missing for me soon as I get that first one I think there will be a lot more to follow.
Q7. What are your targets for the rest of the year?
Targets are to just dig in and go deeper into the tv events and like I said before hopefully get my first title.
Q8. Finally, you are one of many great players from the North East with the likes of Glen Durrant, Ryan Joyce, Callan Rydz and many others, do you think the standard in the North East is getting better and better?
Without a doubt the North East has to be the best standard of players and I’m not just saying that because I’m from there but it is an unbelievable standard.
Thanks for taking time out Chris, and good luck at the World Matchplay.
