Carter had a chance to catch up with 3 time BDO world champ Glen Durrant for a quick interview.
Q1. Firstly Glen, well done on winning your third BDO World Championship Title, defeating Scott Waites in the final, you also made history by winning three consecutive BDO World Championship Titles in a row since Eric Bristow done it in 1984-1986. How proud are you being the only player to do it since the great Eric Bristow done it?
I have always thanked others for every competition I have won. However, on this occasion I am proud of ME. All those local league nights when you think ‘is it worth it’. But moments like winning BDO World Championships 3 times make the 20 years worth it
Q2. You went to PDC Q School four days after winning your third BDO World Title and went and got PDC Tour Card after becoming World Champion once again, did you feel any pressure going into Q School?
I felt fine. I was shocked at the visuals, in a sense the amount of interest in my games.
I couldn’t get my head around the losses on Thursday and Friday and I did hit a low point.
But I found something on Saturday and the rest is history.
Q3. On the first two days of PDC Q School, you were edged out 5-4 in last leg deciders in the Last 128, after the first two days, did you think you could still win your PDC Tour Card in the remaining two days left?
This is the point you need your support. My manager Mac Elkin was like an expectant Father pacing up and down and my best friend Dennis Coleman looked stressed.
We had a fantastic Friday night with Diogo and Mario Portela and I felt reenergised for a big weekend
Q4. You got your PDC Tour Card thanks to a magnificent Semi-Final run on the third day and a Last 16 run on the final day, losing out to Kirk Shepherd who averaged 102. You finished third on the PDC Q School Order Of Merit, how important was your Semi-Final run on the third day?
The turning point. Mentally I was a different player and incredibly the board from hell.
Q5. What are your aims for your first season on the PDC Circuit?
I guess Ally Pally has to be the focus. I am just super excited and just looking forward to winning games.
Q6. Your first TV tournament in the PDC will be the UK Open in March. Do you think with three Players Championship weekends in a row leading up it will help you and give you confidence?
That’s the plan. I want to hit the ground running.
Q7. You have a great manager in Mac Elkin, do you think being in the same stable as Kim Huybrechts, Kyle Anderson and Dimitri Van den Bergh will help you?
The positive is that I know them all well and really looking forward to getting to know them well. All great lads
Q8. Do you think being in the PDC and competing with the best in the world week in week out will bring your game on make you a better player?
For sure, I won’t be able to dominate like I have done in the BDO. Be interesting to see how I react when under the cosh
Q9. Do you think the likes of Mark McGeeney, Conan Whitehead and Scott Baker who are the only three players and yourself who competed at the 2019 BDO World Championships a few weeks ago to win PDC Tour Cards, do you think they will do well on PDC Circuit?
Oh god yeah, and I add Jamie Hughes to that list. Exciting times for all of them
Q10. Finally, your first event in the PDC is two weekends away, the start of the Players Championship Pro Tour Events, how are you feeling going into your first tournament as a PDC player?
Had 2 days of practise. Notice handed in at work. Sponsorship deals coming close to conclusion.
Feeling great !
